A Soft Sponsor is a supporter that is not providing any funds but needs to be given access to the sponsorship.
Important Notes:
- Soft Sponsors will need to be added as supporters.
- Adding a Soft Sponsor to a sponsorship will associate the soft sponsor/supporter to the sponsorship.
- The sponsorship payment cannot be split among the sponsor (paying supporter) and the soft sponsor (non-paying supporter).
- The Soft Sponsor will be included on Sponsorship Conversations
- REACH provides a Soft Sponsors Activity Report that will list soft sponsors from your sponsorship program.
- From the Sponsors Report, click on Select Columns to Display to include the Soft Sponsors name and email address in your generated report.
Creating a Soft Sponsor
A Soft Sponsor will need to have its own supporter record.
Note: The supporter’s name could be the name of the person, the name of a foundation or fund.
To create a supporter record, go to Supporters > + New Supporter, and complete all required fields. Refer to our Adding Supporter Records area should you need additional assistance.
Note: The REACH system will generate an email for the supporter, should you not have one. A common example of this is when you are setting up a supporter record for a foundation or fund that does not include an email.
Once the Soft Sponsor has a supporter record, you will then need to establish the Sponsorship-Supporter relationship, listing the soft sponsor.
Creating a Sponsorship that includes a Soft Sponsor
To include a Soft Sponsor on the Sponsorship-Supporter record, you will need to:
Go to Sponsorships, find the sponsorship and then click + New Sponsor.
Follow the prompts to complete the New Sponsor information.
The Supporter is the paying sponsor.
The Soft Supporter is the non-paying sponsor.
Note: The sponsorship payment cannot be split among two supporters. This will associate the sponsorship to both the Supporter and the Soft Supporter.
Click Create.

How Soft Sponsors are Shown in REACH
Once the sponsorship is established that includes the Supporter and Soft Supporter, let’s review how these will be shown within REACH.
From the Sponsorship’s record, in the Current Sponsors section, you will see listed the:
- Sponsor – the paying supporter
- Soft Sponsor – the non-paying supporter
From the Sponsor’s record, the paying supporter, the sponsorship will be listed under the Sponsorship History tab as a Current Sponsorship.
From the Soft Sponsor’s record, the non-paying supporter, the sponsorship will be listed under the Sponsorship History tab as a Soft Sponsorship. Note that the Paying Supporter is also indicated.
From the Sponsorship Supporter record, the name of the Sponsor, the paying supporter, will be listed in the title.
The Soft Supporter, the non-paying sponsor, is listed as a field.
Note: The Donation Details will only list the name of the Supporter that has paid.
As noted above, REACH also provides a Soft Sponsors Activity Report that will list soft sponsors from your sponsorship program.
Sponsorship Conversations
Both the sponsor and the Soft Sponsor will be included on Sponsorship Conversations.
From the Admin Side, go to Sponsorships > Conversations to start a New Conversation.
Next to Supporter, choose the paying supporter. You will then choose the Sponsorship which will show the Soft Sponsor.
