This article will walk you through the steps you need to take when a sponsor requests to change the payment type they use when paying for their sponsorship.
For example, this could be changing to:
- An Online Credit Card to An Offline Check Payment
- An Offline Check Payment to An Online Credit Card
- An Online Credit Card to a Different Online Credit Card
Any of these changes will need to take place from the Sponsorship Supporter Record.
- Go to the Supporter record
- Click on the Sponsorship History tab
- Find the Sponsorship you wish to Change the Payment Type for
- Click on the Pencil Icon > View Details
This will bring up the Sponsorship Supporter Record
How to Update An Online Credit Card to An Offline Check Payment
If a sponsor wants to send a check instead of paying with a recurring online debit or credit card, you can simply Convert to Offline.
To do so, navigate to the Sponsorship Supporter Record.
- Once there, scroll down to the Donations Actions Button > Convert to Offline
Once complete, you will see a ‘Supporter sponsorship was converted to offline.’ notice, and the record will show a payment type of Offline.
How to Update An Offline Check Payment to An Online Credit Card
If a sponsor wants to pay with a recurring debit or credit card(online payment) instead of sending in a check(offline payment), you can simply Convert to Automatic Credit/Debit Card.
To do so, navigate to the Sponsorship Supporter Record.
- Once there, scroll down to the Donations Actions Button > Convert to Automatic Credit/Debit Card.
- You will be taken to the Cart > click Checkout
- This will then take you to the screen to schedule the recurring donation
- Click Create
- In the next screen, select your payment method and click Use Payment Method for your donation to be processed
- Once processed, you will be shown a ‘The donation was successful’ notice
- From the supporter’s Donations screen, confirm that the recurring donation is set for the amount and date intended
How to Update An Online Credit Card to a Different Online Credit Card
If a sponsor use a different credit card for the online recurring donation, you can simply update to a different card.
To do so, navigate to the Sponsorship Supporter Record.
- Once there, scroll down to the Donation Payment Method listed.
- Click on the Change Payment Method button.
This page will list the other available cards in the supporters account.
- Select Use This Payment Method on the card you wish to use.
- If you are adding a new card, click Add New Payment Method.
- On the next details screen, check the box at the top – Update All Recurring and Scheduled Donations
- Click Submit
- From the Sponsorship Supporter record, confirm that the new payment method is listed.
Note: If you are updating payment information for a recurring sponsorship payment that has failed, once the donor’s payment information has been updated, one payment will be processed that night for one missed payment, then the recurring donation will begin to process properly again on the next recurring donation date.
